This month is B Corp month – a chance to recognise and celebrate all the businesses that are going above and beyond to be a force for good in the world by certifying as a B Corp 💚
This year’s theme is Better Business – which is all about bolder targets, higher standards, real accountability and bigger impact.
what exactly is a B Corp?
B Corporations are businesses that have a legal obligation to consider people 🙎♀️ and the planet 🌎 in all their decision-making. They have a ‘triple bottom line’ which means that they measure not only how much profit they make but how much value they add to peoples’ lives (their employees and customers) and the world 💚
There are nearly 4,000 B Corps worldwide all working together and supporting one another to redefine what success means for a business.
The B Corp assessment process measures a company’s performance in five areas: governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment. B Corps are checked against the highest standards by an independent assessor 🧐
what does this mean for honest?
For Honest Mobile being a B Corp simply means doing the right thing by our members, our team and our planet, in every decision we make. So you know we’ve got your back 💪
We’ve been working towards being a B Corp since day 1 – starting as a ‘pending B Corp’ – a company that’s in the process of being certified. In October 2020 we achieved full B Corp certification status 🏆
We love honesty (clue’s in the name 😉 ) and the honesty the certification process requires from a business is great – especially for you as an Honest member – because you know exactly which areas we do well in and where we’re trying to improve. Our impact score is 81.3 – you can read more about it here. We didn’t get a score for our workers’ section in our first assessment because we didn’t have a big enough team to qualify! But as our team grows we’re working on developing the best employee culture possible and hope it will be one of our highest-scoring categories next time 🏆
do i know any other B Corps?
You probably know a few – Innocent, The Guardian, Doisy & Dam and Patagonia are all B Corps. There are 430 B Corps in the UK as of 01 March 2021. You can find them here.
interested in becoming a B Corp?
We believe that all businesses should be striving to become certified B Corporations – it seems like a no-brainer to us 🧠 As a start-up we love chatting to other start-ups about how they can become B Corps – so if you’re interested in B Corp certification read our blog here and don’t hesitate to get in touch!
